Recipes for Life

Recipes for LifeThe Caring Place together with Organic Chef Pete Ghione of Cancer Cuisine have joined forces to present “Recipes for Life”, an informative lecture on low glycemic foods and healthy eating.

Chef Ghione, who holds 16 years of culinary experience, centered on healthy eating after preparing meals for patients of Dr. Simong Youmans at Attitude Health Spa. He later burgeoned out to anti-cancer cuisine after cooking for a three time lung cancer survivor. “I felt I had to share with other cancer patients, those in recovery, and family members who want to prevent it. I especially need to share it with my mother, who has been battling cancer again for over a year now,” says Ghione.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure® presented information that is currently under study regarding breast cancer risk factors and prevention as it relates to the glycemic index. According to the site, “although some studies have found that a high glycemic index diet increases breast cancer risk, most cohort studies and meta-analyses have not shown this link (or have shown a link only among certain groups of women).”

What is known and accepted is that foods with a low or moderate glycemic index are good for your health and can be attributed to a decreased risk of heart disease and diabetes. Foods such as whole wheat, whole oats, brown rice, fruit and legumes are good, low glycemic choices.

The lecture on low glycemic foods and healthy eating with Chef Ghione is scheduled to take place Friday, June 24 from 10:00 – 11:30 am. To RSVP please call The Caring Place at (702) 871-7333
