Although we're on a year-round mission to end breast cancer forever, there is one month where pink ribbons reign supreme. Since 1985, October has been named National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For thirty-one whole days store shelves, athletes, cereal boxes and even Sunday ads are sprinkled with pink products spreading breast health awareness and education to millions of people worldwide.
Because so many pink ribbons flood the marketplace in October, we want to make sure that Susan G. Komen for the Cure stands out above the rest as the global leader in the fight against breast cancer. That is why in 2007, the Komen Running Ribbon was created, becoming not just our brand but an unmistakable voice that speaks to the world, ensuring that OUR message is heard.

For some, the Running Ribbon is simply a pink ribbon. For others, it’s a human figure moving forward. Whichever the case, it speaks to both our heritage and our future. It shows energy, inclusiveness, progressiveness and humanity, reminding us of that promise two sisters made so many years ago and how one person can truly make a difference.
In essence, our brand is who we are. It is our most valuable asset and represents the heart and soul of our organization. It unifies and simplifies, emboldens and strengthens, giving momentum and clarity to our cause.
Did you know? In 1982, Susan G. Komen for the Cure launched the global breast cancer movement and was the first to use pink as its signature color, representing breast cancer awareness. The first pink ribbons were distributed to all breast cancer Survivors and participants of the Komen New York City Race for the Cure.
